The Collector
I am Karl Krieger , collector and dealer of Southeast
Asian antique art by vocation.
The art bug bit me early on in life, when I was seventeen years old,
searching the flea markets at the Turmweg and the old
fish market in my native town of Hamburg , Germany.
At first, the fascination led me into an active trade of
European antiques across the Channel with the dealers in
London’s Bermondsey Street, and occasionally into the
halls of Sotheby’s and Christie’s.
I later sealed my MBA in economics at Hamburg University
with a paper on the international trade in art.
By 1989 I had ventured into Asia and developed an
increasing interest in the beauty of its art.
Extensive travels throughout Southeast Asia followed,
and after seventeen years in the region. I now spend my
time between Europe and , for the most part , the Far
East.

The Collection
It is named after the Lotus flower, and
consists mainly of Buddha sculptures from Southeast
Asia.
The Lotus has become the most important symbol of
Buddhism because of its very special
characteristics. Being a plant that draws its strength
out of the muddy grounds of shallow waters, while keeping
its leaves and flowers high above and clean, it has
inspired Buddhism from the very beginning. It has thus
found its way into almost every expression of the Asian
continent’s art.
The collection contains antique
art acquired respecting the heritage of the people who
created it.
We seek to find worthy connoisseurs and protectors
of its contents.
We serve as a bridge between East and West,
preserving the past to bring joy to the present.
Enjoy viewing the images.
And we hope you will find a piece that brings
happiness into your home! |
